There is not any document evidence of Toxocara infection in the west Iran. Soil transmitted helminthes, particularly Ascaris lumbricoides, are common in this region, thus it is assumed toxocariasis be prevalent in the area. A study carried out between June to November 1993 in Hamadan, west of Iran in co-operation of dog destroying team of Hamadan municipality. A total of 60 stray of dogs destroyed in and surrounding of the city and after autopsy were examined for intestinal parasites, including Toxocara canis.

Thirty one out of 60 animals (51.6%) were infected to Toxocara. Intensity of infection were 3.6 individuals, with range of one to 16 worms in the dogs. Sex ratio were 1:2 and the 40% of the worms were immature.

Due to high prevalence of Toxocara infection in the dogs, as well as high prevalence of A. Lumbricoides in this region and the same route of human infection to these Ascarids, there is string hazards of visceral larva migrans syndrome in this area.
