Objective: To assess Methotrexate-related side effects on the liver.
Patients & methods: 45 liver biopsies were examined in dermatology ward of Loghman-e-Hakim Hospital in 1986-91.27 liver biopsies were examined after treatment with Methotrexate and were comparisoned with 27 liver biopsies which were not treated with Methotrexate.
Results: Among 27 liver biopsies which were treated with Methotrexate, 50% mild fatty degeneration 20% mild fibrosis, 11% severe fibrosis and 4% Cirrhosis.
Conclusion: Methotrexate has little side effects on liver and the most common Methotrexate-related side effects are fatty degeneration and fibrosis.
